Step 1: Make A Choice

  • Select your programs and pick at least two possible dates for your field trip. Explore the programs Adventure Science Center has to offer. Our Programs at a Glance sheet is a handy list of all our program offerings, their grade levels and the Tennessee science and math standards they cover.
  • Estimate travel time. Please plan to arrive at least 20 minutes before the beginning of your first scheduled activity. Please consider availability of school buses when choosing dates and determining arrival and departure times. Programs may be scheduled for as early as 9:30 am. Driving Directions >
  • Avoid the crowds! We highly recommend booking a field trip in the Fall or Winter. April and May are the busiest months for field trips. October through February are perfect times to explore and experience all the science center has to offer.
  • Springtime is busy time! During the spring months, the bus lane and lobby areas can become congested, and check-in may take up to 20 minutes. Please arrive prepared with all required forms, an accurate count of students and adults, and one single payment for the group.
  • Adventure Science Center can come to you! Not able to bring your class to the Science Center? No problem. We offer exciting outreach programming, assemblies, and family science encounters at schools throughout the Middle TN region. Learn More >
  • Distance Learning Use videoconferencing technology to experience the excitement of a field trip to Adventure Science Center without leaving school!

STEP 2: Make A Count

  • Estimate the total number of students.
  • Estimate the number of free chaperones. Chaperones are adults (parents or teachers) responsible for the behavior of students and are required to supervise and stay with students at all times. Groups are required to have chaperones in the following ratios:
    • Preschool to 2nd grade
1 adult per every 5 students required and admitted free
    • 3rd grade and up
1 adult per 15 students required and admitted free
  • Estimate the number of extra individuals (beyond the required chaperones) who will accompany the group.
Admission to Adventure Science Center exhibits
Students $5
Students of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools Free
Extra Adults $6
Extra Youth (not part of the school) $5
Additional Programs
Add Demonstration + $1.50
Add Presentation + $2
Add Planetarium Program + $3
Add Lab + $3 (some labs are higher)
Some programs require non-refundable advance deposits and materials fees. Prices subject to change without notice.

School Field Trip Rates

A school field trip group is 15 or more students from an educational institution. Groups smaller than 15 students may also book field trips, for a fee equivalent to a group of 15 students.

Reservations are required for group visits and to recieve group pricing. We strongly recommend reserving your visit at least four weeks in advance.

To qualify for group pricing, one payment for the total amount is due upon arrival at ASC. Your organization is responsible for collecting all fees in advance including any extra adults above the chaperone/student ratio.

Individuals arriving with the group but paying separately will pay regular general admission price plus planetarium and program fees (space permitting) instead of the group rate. Please note that processing these extra transactions will lengthen the check-in process for your group and for others.

ASC and reciprocal memberships, coupons and special offers do not apply to school group visits.

ASC charges a $35 check processing fee, so if you bring fewer students/adults than your check amount, a refund will only be processed if it exceeds $35.

Large Group Deposit Policy

For groups of 100 or more students

A $75 deposit is due upon receipt of your reservation confirmation letter. Deposits will be credited toward the total amount due.

Planetarium show reservations require a $1 per person non-refundable deposit. Deposits not received on time may result in cancellation of planetarium reservations.

Balance is due in full upon arrival.

STEP 3: Make A Request

Make a request using our online form or call (615) 862-5177 between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Calling at least 4 weeks in advance is recommended.

Designate one individual to be the contact person representing your school. A field trip packet and confirmation will be sent to the designated school representative by email.

Don’t Forget Lunch!

The Skyline Café is available for $20 for a 30-minute time slot (maximum seating is 66). Any group using the Skyline Café must reserve in advance. Groups may use the outside solar panel picnic area at no charge. During the peak season of March to May, ASC cannot guarantee that your class can eat together in the Skyline Café.

Groups may bring sack lunches from the school, but outside-prepared food (delivery pizza, fast food, etc.) is not permitted in the Science Center.

Box lunches are available for pre-order from the full-service Subway® restaurant located in the Skyline Café. Download an order form and fax directly to Subway at (615) 214-8200 at least three days in advance.

Please note: Refunds for Skyline Café reservations are not available for day-of cancellations.

Encourage Self-Guided Learning!

From hunting for examples of simple machines to discovering your weight in space, Adventure Science Center’s student self-guided activities are a great way to keep students busy when exploring the different exhibit areas of the Center. Divide small groups into teams with an adult chaperone in each group. Give each team a copy of the challenge. The focused explorations can be used in specific areas (BodyQuest, Adventure Tower, or Space Chase) or can be used as open-inquiry challenges when exploring the whole Center.

Visiting The Gift Shop

Your field trip is made complete with a stop at Adventure Science Center Gift Shop. Our gift shop has an irresistible selection of educational science toys and unusual items that kids of all ages enjoy! We invite you to shop, but please note the following guidelines to ensure a pleasant visit for all.

    • Students must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
    • Students must be brought in small groups of 10-15 at a time.
    • Students coming into the gift shop without a chaperone will be asked to leave.
    • Please do not enter the gift shop with your group until the previous group leaves.
    • Please plan your trip accordingly to allow time for all to shop. To avoid a rush, consider scheduling small groups to visit the shop throughout your visit.
    • Please inform your students that Tennessee sales tax (9.25%) applies to all gift shop purchases.
    • Please ask students to have their money counted and neatly arranged before going to the register.

No time for exploring the gift shop? ASC offers unique, pre-made Adventure Packs, containing fun science items that children are sure to love! Order in advance and ASC will have the packs ready to pick up on the day of your visit. Your students won’t feel like they missed an opportunity to take home a souvenir of their visit to Adventure Science Center.

Adventure Packs are $5 per student and contain 3 to 4 items. Payment is due on the day of your visit or you may pre-pay by check, Visa, Discover, or MasterCard. Please note that the gift shop only accepts cash or credit card. A single check for the entire amount may be accepted if you call ahead and have been pre-approved. Selections may vary based on available stock. Download an order form and place your order at least two weeks prior to your visit.

Refund Policy

When a field trip is cancelled for non-weather related reasons, you may be eligible for a refund. If a refund is due, a $35 processing fee will be charged. If your refund amount is less than $35, you will not be sent a refund and your balance will be zeroed out. This policy does not apply to credit card payments.
